Telecom XXI Company has a license for mobile communication services in GSM 900/1800 standard in the North-Western region of Russia. The planned investments into the network's development in the North-Western region will total $80 million by the end of 2001, announced the Press Service of MTS. The Network will start working in the fourth quarter of 2001.
The digital mobile communication services in GSM 900/1800 standard in the North-Western region will be offered by the 100% of MTS - Telecom XXI branches with the trade mark 'Mobile telecommunication systems'. The network will include a switch with the initial capacity of 10 thousand telephone subscribers and 120 base stations by the end of the current year. It will have the opportunity to provide digital communications on almost all the territory of Saint Petersburg as well as on a part of Moscow - Saint Petersburg route, starting from Tver region's boundary, says the Press Service of the Company in Moscow.
At the present Telecom XXI company offers mobile communication services in Saint Petersburg. The company's network includes a switch and 15 base stations made by Ericsson Company. After Telecom XXI company is bought the license territory of MTS and its branch companies will include 43 regions of Russia where 80 million people, 50% of the whole country's population, live.
