The first North-West Internet Forum has opened in St. Petersburg.

The first stage of the forum is a web-site competition on 10 nominations: “business site” (site of an organization), “professional site” (site of an organization dealing with web-site design), “regional site” (a site showing the North-West region's current life), “cultural, historical or tourism site”, “state, social and political site”, “social site”, “educational site”, “the best sponsor site”, “mobile site” (that can be looked through by personal portable digital devices), “site about St. Petersburg”. Besides there is a special nomination “the web-invention of the year” to chose the most interesting internet project.

The second stage of the forum comprises an international conference named “The Electronic Government in the North-West: Foreign Experience and Russian Trends”, which takes place on December 5-6, 2002, in St. Petersburg. The Information Resources Center of the USA Consulate General in St. Petersburg will take part in the conference.

On February 6, 2002, the winners will be awarded.
