The final decision about opening of a high-speed railway between Helsinki and St. Petersburg has been made.

The railway is to be built in several stages. The first stage is planned to be completed by 2003. It will allow to reduce time for journey from St. Petersburg to Helsinki to four hours, which is two hours less than now. In 2006 a new infrastructure will be built in Finland, and the trip will take only three hours.
