The 9th International Congress of Bankers has opened in St. Petersburg. It is titled 'Market Discipline and Financial Transparency: Accounting, Bookkeeping, Audit'. The agenda includes a discussion concerning the modernisation of Russia's banking business, its integration in the world financial community, and the reforming of Russia's stock market over the years 2000-2002.

The participants include over 500 individuals representing 180 banks and other financial organisations of 106 cities throughout the world and such international financial institutions as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. The congress will last through June 8.
