Russian Prime Minister Mikhael Kasyanov announced yesterday at a press conference for the Baltic States Council summit that Northern Dimension projects concerning general plans rather than specific regions have been under discussion. He said that, in dealing with ecological issues, there will be a focus on those regions which have an influence on the ecological situation in the Baltic Sea. In particular, Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen mentioned yesterday the signing of documents concerning the construction of the South-Western Water-Treatment Plant. Kasyanov underlined that the Finnish project are to be carried out in the near future.
Transport issues concerning not only the Leningrad and Kaliningrad Regions, but all the countries of the Baltic States Council, were also discussed at the summit. In particular the prime ministers of Baltic states said that they were ready to invest in the creation of a transport infrastructure on the territories of their states.
