St. Petersburg's Northern Wharf to Build 28 Vessels for Czechia St. Petersburg's Northern Wharf will build 28 vessels for Czechia under the program of Russia's foreign debt repayment. This is according to Boris Kuzyk, the General Director of the New Programs and Concepts holding company, the owner of the wharf. The project will be financed from the federal budget, the necessary contracts signed annually as new annual budgets are passed. Mr. Kuzyk said 3 to 6 vessels could be built annually with federal financing. He believes that the part of the debt Russia owes to Czechia to be repaid under this project amounts to USD 200 million.

Of the series of contracts, the first one providing for the construction of 5 bulk carriers of the sea-river class was signed on April 17 this year. The vessels were designed by the Vympel design bureau. Each 5,000 tonnes in salt water, 3,950 tonnes in fresh water deadweight bulk carrier will be 128.2 metres long and 16.7 metres wide.
