On Tuesday in St. Petersburg the international scientific - practical conference devoted to a 300-anniversary of Saint Petersburg and a 1000-anniversary of Kazan is opened. The basic theme of conference “The Great Volga way” is a main trading waterway of epoch of the early Middle Ages, stretched from Norway up to Iran.

Actions in the framework of conference from August, 6 till August, 14 will be held in five cities of Europe: Saint Petersburg, Tallinn, Helsinki, Riga and Stockholm. In each of these cities expositions " 300 years to Saint Petersburg " and " Kazan - 1000 ", and also a commercial and industrial exhibition will be developed.

During the conference participants of a forum will discuss a history of formation and development of the Great Volga way, a problem of preservation of a historical heritage of cities laying along it, and also problems and prospects of trade and economic relations of Russia and the countries of Baltic. Besides an official part for participants of conference excursion programs are prepared.

The great Volga way had oustanding geopolitic, transport, trading, cultural, international and interstate value in a history of peoples of Europe and Asia.. Today the navigable way on the river Volga unites more than 90 cities of 35 countries of the world.
