Hamburg and St. Petersburg will develop cooperation between their ports. Ole von Beust, Mayor of Hamburg, told about it after meeting Valentina Matvienko. According to Ole von Beust, “ports of St. Petersburg and Hamburg has been successfully cooperating for long time”. In addition, the Port of Hamburg has established contacts with ports of Leningrad region. According to Mr. von Beust, Hamburg will contribute to equipping the container terminal in Ust-Luga.
The grand opening of the first Russian representative office of the Port of Hamburg took place in St. Petersburg on May 27. Principal functions of the new representative office will be promoting cooperation between Russian and German business, development of projects connected with increasing transportation, logistic support and distribution of Russian products on the world markets. According to the staff of the representative office, the principal cause of the activities of the Port of Hamburg on the Russian market was considerable increase in cargo traffic between Hamburg and St. Petersburg. Cargo traffic between the Port of Hamburg and the countries of Baltic Sea, including Russia, is 26.6% of the total cargo traffic of the port.
