Head of Karelia Sergei Katanandov arrived in Helsinki today to discuss bilateral relations with the Finnish leadership. The visit will include a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen where they will discuss economic and cultural relations between Finland and Karelia.
According to the republic's Ministry of Economic Development trade turnover between Karelia and Finland rose by 14% year-on-year over the first nine months of 2003. The Karelian government is currently negotiating with Finnish business circles about investing in several other industrial projects in 2004-2005. In particular this involves furniture production and road building.
