Presidential Plenipotentiary in the North-West Federal District Ilya Klebanov met Director of General Electric for Russia and the CIS Ron Pollett in Saint Petersburg this week. They discussed the project to build a plant in the Leningrad Region for producing diesel engines for locomotives. They spoke of when the plant is likely to be built and discussed the prospects of the company's work in helping to produce locomotives for the Russian market.
Mr Klebanov stressed that the district would like to collaborate more closely with large companies such as General Electric as this will increase the demand for spare parts made in Russia.
Talks are currently going on with the Russian Railway Ministry and Russian Railways about a contract to supply engines. The American corporation is planning to supply new engines for 765 Russian locomotives over the next five years as part of a program to update the Russian railway service.
