Concern Power Machines to modernize Macedonian power station Bitola for USD 20 million

Macedonian power station Bitola The Russian company Power Machines and the Macedonian Energy Ministry have signed a contract for the modernization of three power units belonging to the Macedonian electric power station Bitola.

The contract is worth more than USD 20 million. The entire project will be financed on the basis of debt owed by the former USSR to the former Yugoslavia, and now held by Macedonia. The modernization of the first unit will be completed by the end of this year, while work on the second and third units will be carried out between May and September of 2005. As a result of the modernization, the energy output of each unit will be increased by 10 Megawatts to 235 Megawatts.

Between 1978 and 1984, components for the power-generating station Bitola were manufactured by Electrosila and the Leningrad Metal Factory, now part of the electrical equipment manufacturing concern Power Machines. Specialists from the concern have already undertaken a partial modernization of the three power units in 1994, as a result of which their energy output was increased from 210 to 225 Megawatts.

The concern Power Machines is the leading Russian manufacturer and distributor of electrical equipment for hydraulic, fuel-burning, gas and atomic energy stations, for the transmission and distribution of electric energy, as well as transportation and railroad equipment.
