The Fisrt Russian - Japanese Investment Forum to take place in St. Petersburg
08.23.2006 17:00

japan The Fisrt Russian-Japanese Investment Forum will be held in St. Petersburg at the beginning of September 2006. This is the first event of this kind for the whole history of Russian-Japanese relations.

It will be chaired by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Russian-Japanese Organization for Promotion of Trade and Investment, as well as The Government of St. Petersburg with the support of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Japan Business Federation (' Nippon Kejdanren '), the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japanese Association for Trade with Russia and Central-East Europe (ROTOBO).

The decision on carrying out a Forum was made at the meeting of Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, Herman Gref, and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Tosihiro Nikaja, in November 2005. The Ministers will head delegations of two states at the Forum.

The Russian delegation comprises approximately 300 heads of the largest banks and companies of the country, as well as the administration of subjects of the Russian Federation.

From the Japanese side, among almost 200 delegates, there will be the representatives from The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, representatives of business community of Japan, who are the members of the Japanese-Russian Committee on Economic Cooperation, the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japanese Association for Trade with Russia and Central-East Europe (ROTOBO).

St. Petersburg was chosen for the Forum as a strategic basement of the Russian-Japanese economic cooperation. It is chosen by the companies ' Toyota ' and ' Nissan ' for construction of the automobile factories; the influential Japanese manufacturing companies also open here their plants. These decisions became the beginning of the promotion of St.-Petersburg on international scene as a city, advanced in the Japanese-Russian cooperation.

From the point of view of the Japanese companies, St.-Petersburg is a very convenient and attractive city for the international cooperation.

The program of the Forum consists of three conferences: concerning new opportunities of investment policy in Russia, concerning special economic zones on the territory of the Russian Federation, and about the creation of the Russian-Japanese business-partnership.

During the time of Forum, round tables and investment exhibition of the Japanese and Russian enterprises will take place.
