Germany's Knauf opened a plasterboard plant on Wednesday in Kolpino, outside St. Petersburg, an Interfax correspondent reported from the opening ceremony.
Investment totaled 60 million euros.
The plant will produce 30 million square meters of plasterboard a year and it plans to increase production by 20% in two years.
The plant will sell its products in the northwest region. Plaster will be supplied from the Arkhangelsk plaster quarry developed by Knauf.
Knauf will invest more than 150 million euros in establishing and developing Russian enterprises in 2006.
Knauf owns 10 production companies in Russia, nine marketing companies and a branch network of education centers.
