Nissan sold 44,131 automobiles via official dealers in Russia in January-August, up 52.9% from 28,869 a year previously, Nissan Motors RUS said.
Nissan sold 7,612 automobiles in August this year, up from 3,755 in the same month of 2005.
The best selling models in January-August 2006 were the Nissan Almera (20,300 against 13,313 in the first eight months of last year), followed by the Primera (7,142 against 6,203) and the X-Trail (6,183 compared with 4,561).
Nissan signed an agreement with the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry and City of St. Petersburg in the middle of June this year to build a $200-million factory in St. Petersburg capable of producing 50,000 cars. Nissan plans to produce a jeep and two cars at the factory, which should be launched in 2009.
Nissan sold 46,485 automobiles in Russia in 2005, up from 28,436 in 2004.
