Scania opens delivery centre in St Petersburg

Scania has inaugurated an industrial facility in St Petersburg, Russia, for truck assembly and bodywork. From this new Delivery Centre, Scania will supply complete trucks that are adapted to the requirements and operating conditions in Russia. The facility has a technical assembly capacity of around 5,000 truck chassis, and 1,500 superstructures per year.

"This facility enables us to move the factory gate closer to the customer, shorten delivery times and greatly improve Scania's customer support in the Russian market," said Johan Balck, head of the Delivery Centre in St Petersburg.

This Russian facility is Scania's sixth such delivery centre. The others are located in South Africa, Dubai, Malaysia, Thailand and South Korea. The Russian centre will initially have around 70 employees.

The OEM will work with a number of local suppliers of superstructures and equipment, which will enable it to reduce lead and delivery times.

Scania is marking its 100th anniversary in Russia. The company first started exporting trucks to the country in 1910, with the first vehicle going to St Petersburg. Since the first sale, Scania has delivered around 22,000 trucks and buses to the country.
