Construction of additional piers at Russiaís Bronka Port to begin next month

Bronka Port, St. Petersburg, Russia

Construction of Piers 5 & 6 at Bronka Port to begin on schedule next month. Piers to relieve pressure on St. Petersburg, says project investor
The construction of two new piers at the Port of Bronka, based in St. Petersburg, is set to begin next month, according to the projectís investor.
Alexey Shukletsov, the Phoenix Ltd. CEO, told reporters at a recent visit of the site by the German Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer that the construction of Piers Number 5 and 6 will begin on schedule in mid-December.
Shukletsov explained that the development at Bronka Port will not only relieve pressure at the neighboring Port of St. Petersburg, but will provide vessels with a faster turnaround time than its fellow Russian port. Vessels will spend just 40 minutes within the new port complex when unloading goods, compared to the three and a half hours currently experienced by ships calling at St. Petersburg, claims Shukletsov.
The completion of the first phase of the project will see an initial capacity of 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes, according to World Maritime News. This number will increase to 1.9 million TEUs when the final phase of the project is completed, with the first vessel expected to be handled at the Piers in 2014.
To ensure that the new piers are granted adequate access to the ports hinterland, Russian firm Rosavtodor has also been contracted to build an exit road linking the complex with the main route out of Bronka.
Piers 5 and 6 will form an integral part of the Bronka multifunctional marine cargo complex being constructed in the new Cargo Area at the Big Port St. Petersburg.
