FCT St Petersburg makes series of measures in preparation for the coming winter The Port of St Petersburg’s First Container Terminal (FCT) has implemented a series of specific measures to prepare for the harsh Russian winter. To ensure the facility is suitable prepared for the season FCT has significantly extended its fleet of snow-removal equipment to remove snow from the yard. Hyundai front loaders and Kamaz dump trucks are among the purchases that will be added to the FCT fleet of specialized equipment already in operation. Additionally, a snow-melting machine and steam generator will be used to speed up de-icing operations at the terminal. FCT has also offered its help in the removal of snow on the roads and public areas surrounding the port. It is hoped that the measures implemented at FCT will enable operations during the winter to remain as efficient, in terms of timely containerships handling and container dispatch by truck and railroad, as it has throughout 2011. FCT, part of the NCC Group, increased its throughput capacity up to 1,350,000 TEU in 2011, operating direct feeder services to some of Europe’s largest ports, including Rotterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp.
