In January-December 2014, Big Port St. Petersburg handled 61.1 mln t of cargo (+6%, year-on-year), Transport Committee of Saint-Petersburg.
According to the statement, the increase was driven by loading of mineral fertilizers (7.5 mln t, + 26%), ferrous metal (4.4 mln t, + 14%), scrap metal (2.2 mln t, + 59%). Transshipment of containerized cargo totaled 23.8 mln t (or 2.3 mln TEUs).
Total throughput of the ports in the Gulf of Finland (Saint-Petersburg, Primorsk, Ust-Luga, Vyborg, Vysotsk) increased by 4% to 209.6 mln t.
«Exceeding of the psychologically-crucial result of 60 mln t reflects the high load of the Big Port St. Petersburg. Marine terminals historically located in the Kirovsky district of Saint-Petersburg have no area reserves for the development. To ensure further increase of the throughput, transshipment facilities will be developed in outer ports near railway station Bronka, in Lomonosov and in Kronshtadt,” the statement says.
Commissioning of the Marine Multipurpose Complex Bronka is scheduled for September 2015. It is being built on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland where the Dam and the Ring Road border the territory of Lomonosov.
The Bronka Complex will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal, Ro-Ro terminal and logistics center. The Bronka Phase 1 capacity is projected to be 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. The facility’s container throughput is planned to be increased to 1.9 million TEUs.
Big Port St. Petersburg is the largest port in the North West region of Russia. It is located in the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland.
