A sand sculpture in honour of this event is currently being created near Peter-and-Paul's fortress. The 4-metre-high sculpture, commemorating Yuri Gagarin's 1961 flight, will be built on the beach alongside the fortress by a group of Russian sculptors under the leadership of Viktor Chernyshev (Moscow). The celebration of the anniversary also involved a space technology show, during which a model of a Mars-walking machine was demonstrated by specialists from VNIITransmash institute.
