A unique heart surgery was carried out under local anesthesia, without cutting through the rib cage, with the use of a system of artificial blood flow by cardiac surgeons at the city´s Pokrovsky Hospital. They were assisted by colleagues from the U.S. and Israel, who arrived here to attend the Second International Interventional Cardiology Symposium. The symposium is devoted to issues of diagnostics and treatment of heart disease, of disturbed heartbeat with the application of modern invasion techniques. Such surgeries bring about much fewer complications and are maximally effective, ensuring appropriate quality of life to patients with heart disease. Photo of the surgery in progress by Yu.
