Flemish carillon a gift to St. Petersburg.

Photo by S. Tyagin, Interpress. The unusual gift was brought from its homeland to Peter-and-Paul's Fortress yesterday. A carillon is a musical instrument which may justly be called a grand piano made out of bells. It consists of 51 large and small bells connected to a keyboard. There once was a carillon in Peter-and-Paul's Fortress in the 18th century. Later it was worn out and taken out of the fortress. Two centuries after the unique instrument has returned to the banks of Neva in order to delight the ears of St. Petersburgers with the sounds of bell music. Photo by S. Tyagin, Interpress.
