The V event of the “Grand Prix of Figure Skating” Series – the Cup of Russia – is over.
Russians again have shown a high class in almost all events. The champion of the world Evgeni Plushenko has performed successfully on the Petersburg ice. He looked very confident and has left Ivan Dinev (Bulgaria) and Roman Serov (Russia) behind. Among ladies, Irina Slutskaya was the first; among pairs – Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze.
The last event in the program was an Ice Dance. Here the best were Italians Barbara Fusar-Poli and Maurizio Margaglio trained by Tatiana Tarasova.
Galit Hait and Sergey Sachnovsky (Israel) won the second place. The best Russians – Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov – only the forth.
The St. Petersburg Governor Vladimir Yakovlev, meeting with the President of the International Skating Union (ISU) Ottawio Chinkvanta, proposed to include the Final Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2003, which St. Petersburg claims to hold, into a program of the city's 300-year anniversary celebration. Mr. Chikvanta has seconded this idea.
