A memorial board to the Russian writer, linguist and ethnographer, Vladimir Dal, whose 200-year anniversary was celebrated this year, was opened on Ostrovskogo Square, 11, on the initiative of the World Petersburgers' Club. The famous compiler of the “Explanatory Dictionary” came to St. Petersburg after being appointed a manager in the administration of Internal Affaires Minister and lived in a house near the Aleksandrinsky Theatre in 1841-1849.Photo by N.
