For a year thirty winterers will be living at Vostok Station, where the planet's lowest temperature of 89.2 degrees centigrade was measured.

One of the expedition's tasks is to explore a unique lake located under a three-kilometre ice mass and having the area of several hundred sq. km. The Russian polar explorers will drill the glacier at the depth exceeding 3500 metres that will provide us with knowledge of the planet's climate during thousands years. The expedition is headed by the legendary polar explorer Valery Lukin.
