According to the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, this is a holiday not only for Petersburg scientific community, but also for all inhabitants of the city on the Neva River. St. Petersburg has been the centre of Russian Science since its foundation and has determined progress in various spheres of nature and society study, in learning of mysteries of material and spiritual worlds. Everybody knows names of the most distinguished Petersburg scientists – from genius Mikhail Lomonosov till our contemporaries Dmitry Likhachev, Natalya Bekhterevf, Zhores Alferov and others.
