International anti-terrorist forum has ended in St. Petersburg

the forum in Tavrichesky Palace The forum was a joint initiative of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS (IPA CIS) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Countries of Europe (PACE) with the cooperation of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Parliament. It was also supported by the Northern Council, the Assembly of the West-European Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), Interparliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community and a number of intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations. A resulting declaration was passed before the closing.

Peter Schider, the Chairman of the PACE, said, 'The important fact is that politicians attended the forum alongside professionals', explaining that professionals, while they knew how to fight terrorists, needed the support of politicians. The positive quality of the resulting document is that it contains a list of exact actions to be taken. However, Mr. Schider said, that while the anti-terrorist steps were necessary, they must be taken while fully respecting the norms of international law and human rights.
