Tercentenary Commemorative Yacht to Sail Around the World

The trip will last until September 1, 2004.

The yacht will call at the ports of more than 30 countries, among them Germany, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France, Barbados, the Canary Islands, the USA, Cuba, Jamaica and many others. The aim of the expedition is to bring St. Petersburg's history and culture to the most remote corners of the world. The yacht will be like a mobile information centre with historical, cultural and business expositions onboard. The exhibits are being prepared by the Russian State Museum, the Hermitage, the History Museum, the Region Museum, Kazansky Cathedral and Tsarskoye Selo. When the yacht is at port, there will be various press conferences, briefings and other events bringing together all those interested in cooperating with St. Petersburg. On May 23-27, 2003, when she is at San Francisco's port, her crew will take part in the festivities dedicated to the birthday of St. Petersburg. One of the events scheduled in San Francisco is inaugurating a monument to Russian sailors sculptured by Mikhail Shemyakin.
