In Saint Petersburg on the University quay so-called guards of Neva - two Egyptian sphynxes after restoration have been opened. Many centuries ago they decorated the pyramid of pharaon Amenhotep III. 170 years ago the emperor Nikolay I has got them.
It was the first repair for granite statues which are more than 35 centuries old. To forthcoming anniversary of city they have been covered with special structure which prevent from destruction. To tell the truth, because of smog, shrouded these days the city, to appreciate all magnificence of ancient giants at its true value it is possible only from close distance.
