Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the staff and readers of the newspaper Sankt-Peterburgskiye Vedomosti on its 275th anniversary. The edition is the successor of Russia's first newspaper, Vedomosti, which opened the history of Russian journalism 300 years ago. The newspaper Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti "gained wide recognition and prestige among the general public and became an important source of information and enlightenment," wrote Putin in his message. "It carries on and develops the best traditions of Russian journalism by attracting a great deal of interest and winning the respect of readers."
