On May 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder took part in the opening ceremony of the Amber Room, recreated in the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo. The leaders of the countries had a tour of the palace. They were accompanied by the guides of Tsarskoe Selo museum, who spoke about the technologies, used in recreation of this unique masterpiece of applied art. Ivan Sautov, the head of the museum, acted as a private tour-guide for the guests.
Having examined the Amber Room, the guests followed the Russian President to the Dancing Hall, where Mr. and Mrs. Putin gave a gala-dinner in honor of the leaders of the countries, who had arrived to celebrate the anniversary of St. Petersburg.
