Relatives and close friends of the dead sailors, the fleet and city’s representative bodies will gather at the Nikolsky Naval Cathedral, where the requiem of the dead submarines is to be served. Then at the Seraphim cemetery where 32 sailors of “Kursk” were buried, will be held an inauguration of the memorial.
The memorial composition by Nikita Sokolov, Gennady Peycher and Anatoliy Bogachev represents a black granite cub imitating oceanic depths, and a stormy petrel –the symbol of victory is placed over the composition. On the memorial’s face engraved an inscription: “Eternal memory for the crew of the the atomic-powered vessel “Kursk”” and the families of the dead submariners.
