ST. PETERSBURG, September 5. International exhibition CIS Offshore 2003 and international conference RAO-03 will take place from September 16-19 in St. Petersburg. The RAO-03 organizing committee told Rosbalt that St. Petersburg was chosen as the city to host the conference and exhibition deliberately because the city is home to company leaders in the field, scientific centers, and the Northwest region is home to some of the most promising development prospects. The region accounts for 7% of the country's oil and gas resources and is home to the largest sea ports.
The leading oil and gas companies in Russia and the CIS plan to take part in CIS Offshore 2003 including companies in the area of sea drilling, equipment and ship producers for developing shelf oil and gas fields. Leading scientific centers and consulting firms will also be represented.
The RAO-03 conference will host a discussion of projects for developing oil and gas fields on the continental shelf, questions of geologic and transportation problems, technical questions, fire and ecological security, economics and international cooperation in developing the shelf.
Russia has the most lengthy shelf in the world, 85% of which is located in the artic sector. Deposits in the Northern Artic region alone are estimated at 80 billion tonnes of fuel.
