The Inuits of the Northern Canada mark off the significant place or use such constructions as the direction pointer. The Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien declared the decision of the Canadian government during his St. Petersburg visit in May 2003. The city’s administration supported this proposal and found the most appropriate site for Inukshuk – the Institute of People of the North attached to the Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen. The opening of Inukshuk will happen in the framework of the first official visit to St. Petersburg of the Canadian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Russian Federation
