New building for Mariinsky Theater

The present building of  Mariinsky Theater The Government of the Russian Federation is about to purchase a building in St. Petersburg to restore the workshops and warehouses of the Mariinsky Theater. In accordance with the Government’s decision, the buildings A, Á and B situated on 7 Kievsky Street will be bought as a Federal Property for 43.7 million rubles and handed down to be run by the theater, news agencies report with reference to the Government Information Department.

The Finance Ministry of the Russian Federation has been commissioned to allocate the necessary funds from the Government’s reserve supply to the Russian Ministry of Culture. As “DP” reported before, the September 2003 fire burnt down Mariinsky Theater’s workshops and the warehouse on Pisarev Street. The three-storied brick building as a Federal property dated back to 1834. In November 2003 the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov signed a prescription to allocate 23, 210 thousand rubles from the Government’s reserve supply to the Ministry of Culture in the fourth quarter 2003. These resources were directed for the consequences of fire suppression to repair and reconstruct serving spaces of the National Mariinsky Theater. Part of this money also meant for the restoration of damaged decor (6 820 thousand rubles), acquisition of machine-tools and other equipment for decor making (2 748 thousand rubles). Another portion has to be spent on lease of transient premises used as production shops and warehouses (904 thousand rubles).
