Each City health center will soon have a drugstore of its own. Both private and state-run drugstores are free to develop their own retail chains.
The task to form new drugstores was set by the Governor of St. Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, during a City Administration session. Those pharmacies which have been selected to sell specially priced medicines will have the right to operate. The tender results were be made public on December 30 and published in most city newspapers.
After that the tender itself has been called to dispense the Government Work of 340 million rubles to provide a special category of people with medications for the first half of 2004. The whole allocations in 2004 will add up to about 800 million rubles.
