Improvements in St. Petersburg subway

St. Petersburg subway The first subway train to travel on the restored track between the Lesnaya and Ploshchad Muzshestva stations will run on May 27, which is a City Day. For two to three weeks after the first train travels over the restored section of the Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya line there will be no trains between the Ploshchad Lenina and Devyatkino stations.

Governor Valentina Matviyenko had earlier set a deadline for the restoration of the line of June 30. The section of the city's subway network was flooded by water from the Neva River in December 1995, leaving many residents in the city's northern districts without a quick link into the city.

An Admiralteiskaya station and a second exit from the Sportivnaya station on Vasilyevsky Island are among the other plans for the expansion of the St. Petersburg subway. The Admiralteiskaya station will be located in a postwar building on the corner of Malaya Morskaya Ulitsa and Kirpichnaya Pereulok. The exit from the Sportivnaya station will lead to the area around Syezdov Liniya, Sredny Prospekt and Naberezhnaya Makarova, he added.

Also a trial train will run to the station Komendantsky Prospekt towards the end of the year before regular trains run in the first quarter of 2005.
