St. Petersburg 'Guest Cards' Soon to Be Available to Tourists

Card The St. Petersburg Tourism Committee has worked out a project to create 'St. Petersburg Guest Cards,' according to the deputy chairman of the committee, Boris Shevchenko. As reported by a Rosbalt correspondent, Shevchenko told a press conference entitled 'Development of Tourism in St. Petersburg' that similar cards were already available in 38 European cities.

Shevchenko said the cards allow tourists to access museums and other cultural attractions, as well as to travel on the metro, free of charge. He said that the goal of creating the cards was to attract more visitors to St. Petersburg, including during the winter season.

The card's operator will be a Russian commercial organization, and control of the project will be in the hands of Swedish colleagues. A pilot project will be inaugurated in the summer of 2005. According to Shevchenko, a preliminary price for the cards has been set at USD 34, but will be further amended.
