The airline will fly three times a week from Incheon International Airport, which serves Seoul, the first Asian carrier to start regular services to the Russian city, Korean Air said in an e-mailed statement. The airline will use Airbus SAS A330-200 planes on the route.

The recovery in South Korea's economy, which is forecast to expand more than 5 percent this year from 3.1 percent in 2003, is encouraging more people to travel overseas.

A total of 15,461 South Koreans visited Russia in the first five months of this year, a third more than a year earlier.

St. Petersburg is the third Russian city served by Korean Air. It also flies to Moscow and Vladivostok.
