A Velikiy Novgorod pre-trial detention facility has opened the first two cells equipped with air conditioners, TV and radio sets and refrigerators.
The regional corrections department said that the four-person cells come as part of a Russian Justice Ministry pilot project.
Inmates willing to live in these cells will have to pay 300 rubles per person a day.
Apart from the Novgorod region, similar cells will be opened in pre-trial detention facilities in another 10 regions, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG CRIM LEG] tm tj
