The Mariinsky (formerly Kirov) Theater gave a charity performance "Beslan - a concert for the sake of the future" in London to help victims of the September 1-3 terrorist attack in South Ossetia.

On November 7 the theater's soloists and orchestra conducted by artistic director Valery Gergiyev performed at the London Coliseum of the English National Opera, said the press service of the Mariinsky Theater.

The concert's program included Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Pathetic Symphony and Modest Mussorgsky's Songs and Dance of Death. Dmitry Khvorostovsky sang the solo part.

The box returns of this concert was distributed between the Beslan Lifeline foundation (medical aid to Beslan victims) and the new Mariinsky Theater's program of assistance to Beslan.

The performance in London is the second concert organized by the Mariinsky Theater to help Beslan. The first one took place in late October in Paris and the third concert will be held in Rome on December 3.

"This concert is a part of our joint efforts on the assistance to North Ossetian families, people who survived those horrible days in Beslan. We want to support them now and in the future," said Valery Gergiyev born to an Ossetian family.

"Concerts are not the only aspect of the theater's aid to North Ossetia," the press service stressed. For instance, the Mariinsky Theater donated money to the Beslan Fund.
