IT-park pilot project to be launchedThe Information Technologies and Communication Ministry plans to launch an IT-park pilot project in St. Petersburg, its head Leonid Reiman told the media after a joint conference of the St. Petersburg authorities and the ministry’s delegation devoted to information technologies and communications development.
Reiman said research into a concept of IT-parks had been conducted in St. Petersburg for the past two years.
Governor Valentina Matviyenko said “we have agreed that starting from this year we shall be preparing for the conclusion of an agreement on the creation of such a techno-park in St. Petersburg on the basis of the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications.
“In Russia there may be several dozen technoparks. We have suggested only the fist few options,” Reiman said. All budget funds will be distributed on the contested basis.
The presidential representative in the Northwestern Federal District, Ilya Klebanov has said St. Petersburg may set a good example in terms of creation of IT-zones capable of enhancing the competitiveness of domestic producers and promote innovation activities, because the city will be always the leader in the field of new technologies introduction.
Technoparks are being created with the aim of promoting enterprise in science and engineering, supporting and developing small venture businesses and firms and applying research-intense technologies in industry.
There is a possibility technoparks will enjoy the same preferences as special economic zones.
