A traditional Weak of Science and High Technologies is opening in St. Petersburg on Monday.

More than 10 percent of Russia’s scientific and technical potential are concentrated in the city on the Neva.

Experts describe the congress-exhibition “High Technologies. Innovations. Investments” presented at the Information and Exhibition Centre of Russia’s south-north as the main event of the project.

The forum organizers told Itar-Tass that over 150 applications had been sent to the contest “Best innovation project and the best scientific and technical development of the year” due to be held within the framework of the forum. Participants in the contest will compete two nominations: “Innovation project for the municipal economy” and “Scientific and technical developments in the field of industrial production, housing and communal services, ecology, energy- and resource-saving.”

The contest was established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in 1998. Over six years, more than 1,000 scientific collectives were awarded medals and diplomas.

The first Russian venture forum under the patronage of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science will be held within the framework of the forum in St. Petersburg.

The forum scientific program pays special attention to the analysis of experience accumulated by venture capitalists in Russia and abroad, as well as prospects for development of the investment industry in this sphere, representatives of the Association of Direct and Venture Investments stressed.

The interlocutors specified that more than 60 funds of venture and direct investments accumulating four billion dollars had been established in Russia.
