White Days Program Unveilednew “White Days” program aimed at luring tourists to St. Petersburg during its long winter months was announced Thursday at the Hermitage Theater.
The 2005-2006 program was presented by the city’s leading hotels and cultural institutions with the support of City Hall.
This year, besides the traditional international Arts Square Winter Festival this month and the Mariinsky Ballet Festival in March, a new Gogol festival in December and Shrovetide Week in February, will both take place at the Mariinsky Theater.
New exhibitions at the State Hermitage Museum, a special program commemorating the founding of the Russian Museum, and a number of concerts in honor of conductor Yury Temirkanov and of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic are some of the coming attractions.
An ice sculpture festival at the Peter and Paul Fortress will take place and a copy of the Empress Anna’s Ice Palace will be erected at Palace Square.
Launched three years ago, “White Days” is marketed as the winter alternative to St. Petersburg summertime “White Nights” season.
