"It is my pleasure to announce that Gazprom closed a deal to obtain the controlling interest in Zenit," Governor Valentina Matviyenko said, quoted by RIA Novosti news agency.
"Gazprom is the city's strategic partner not only in the gas sector, but in others as well," she said.
The company plans to build a new stadium, provide more facilities and equipment for the club and develop junior soccer leagues, the governor said.
