Conference on problems of global development to open

global_development_conference The seventh conference on problems of global development “ Public institutions and development: at the junction of global changes” is opening in St. Petersburg on Friday.

Five hundred scientists, politicians and public figures from 100 countries will take part in the conference.

As representatives of the city administration told Itar-Tass, the forum is organized by the Global Development Network (GDN) - - the non-commercial organization uniting nine research networks all over the world and several thousands of scientific workers from 100 countries, including experts-economists of the Leontyev Centre in the city on the Neva.

The interlocutors specified that, on the initiative of governor Valentina Matviyenko, St. Petersburg “will for the first time host a scientific forum of such scale and importance.”

At the same time the project sets the task of promoting the strengthening of international ties of St. Petersburg in the field of economic development of countries with transitional economy.

Earlier, conferences on problems of global development were held in Bonn, Tokyo, Rio-de-Janeiro, Cairo, New Delhi and Dakar.

Participants in plenary meetings and four sections will discuss priority world achievements of social sciences in the field of institutional analysis. Special attention will be paid to the analysis of achievements of developing countries and countries with transitional economy.

The concluding plenary meeting is devoted to the 100th birth anniversary of Nobel Prize laureate in the field of economy Vasily Leontyev and the contribution of his scientific heritage to the development of the scientific idea in Russia.
