The Silver Stone trophy for Europe's best hockey club will stay in Russia for another year following the victory of Russian champions Ak Bars Kazan in the European Hockey Champions Cup final.
The team, representing the Russian republic of Tatarstan, beat Finland's HPK Hameenlinna 6:0 in the final in St. Petersburg late Sunday, attended by a crowd of 12,000.
Russia's second-largest city, which hosted the IIHF event for the third consecutive year, is a seeming good-luck charm for Russian clubs participating in the tournament, with Avanhgard Omsk and Dinamo Moscow winning the title in 2005 and in 2006, respectively.
