Mr. Yury V. Molchanov raised the issue of bilateral cooperation between Dubai and St. Petersburg in the field of tourism and said it would help streamline the two way traffic of visitors to both cities.
Mr. Khalid A. Bin Sulayem highlighted DTCM's efforts to promote domestic and international tourism besides briefing him on the initiatives of the Department for realizing the vision of HH Sheikh Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai to host 10 million visitors by 2010 and 15 million by 2015 on its soil.
The number of Russian, CIS and Baltics visitors has soared to 473,037 reflecting a 12% rise in 2007 compared to the visitors from this region to Dubai in 2006. Similarly the Russian passengers who travelled through Dubai airport also rose to 472,948 in 2007 showing an increase of 26% over the previous year.
The Tour Operators featuring Dubai in Russia, CIS & Baltics has improved from 830 in 2006 to 983 in 2007, reflecting 64 % increase. There are at present 18 flights being operated weekly from Dubai to Ekaterinburg and Moscow.
