Presidents Dmitry Medvedev of Russia and Viktor Yushchenko of Ukraine have agreed to hold a meeting in St Petersburg in early July when CIS presidents get together there for an informal summit.

The two presidents reached agreement on this during a telephone conversation Thursday, the Kremlin press service said.

“In the course of the conversation, Medvedev made known Russia’s fundamental assessment of a number of steps taken by Ukraine and having direct impact on Russian interests,” the press service said.

Medvedev called Yushchenko’s attention to the importance of abiding by the principles of partnership in bilateral relations and avoiding the steps, which run counter to effective agreements.

“Both presidents agreed to continue discussion of pressing issues of Russian-Ukrainian relations when Yushchenko visits the St Petersburg Economic Forum,” the press service said.
