Liverpool are weighing up a January bid for Russia international striker Alexander Kerzhakov.
Scouts watched the 27-year-old striker score for Russia against Ireland last week which followed on from hat-tricks for his club Zenit St Petersburg against Anderlecht in the Europa League and against Saturn Moscow in the Russian league.
Liverpool have also asked for further video footage of Kerzhakov, who has been in a rich vein of form of late with 11 goals in eight games.
He only rejoined Zenit in January after an ill-fated move to Sevilla in 2006 and subsequent switch to Dinamo Moscow.
Liverpool would be looking at paying around 6 million pounds but the player still has three years left on contract.
Kerzhakov can also play on the right side of midfield. Liverpool are desperate to bring in two strikers if possible although who they bring in will depend on boss Roy Hodgson keeping his job with the next three games pivotal to the club’s season.
