It’s fair to say that Arshavin was disappointing last season, after he hit the ground running when he first joined Arsenal in 2009, but ask any Gunners fan, and they will tell you he was less than impressive in the last campaign, there is no doubting this players ability and on his day he is pure class, but we have not seen many of those days recently.
In some games last season, he looked like he was not interested and there were times when he was nothing more than a liability. But we could have said that about most of Arsenals star players.
Arshavin seems to be featuring in almost all of Arsenal preseason games, so it’s looking quite likely that Wenger is prepared to give him another season at least. He still has one year left in his contract, and with the likes of Fabregas and Nasri looking to move, Wenger will look to put his trust in Arshavin this season.
Unless a big bid comes in, it’s highly unlikely Wenger will sell the player. Although his old club Zenit St Petersburg where interested in bringing him back to Russia, that was rumoured to be on loan, For me, he deserves another shot with Arsenal, and I believe he will come good in the new season. Arshavin now needs to step up and repay the Arsenal Faithfull with some big performances again.
